An Elementary School Intervention for Improved Dental Screening and Oral Health Practices:
Brushy Beavers and Toothy Tigers

CONCLUSIONS AND IMPLICATIONS

Fourth-grade “Brushy Beavers” learned assessment skills and appropriate language and communication methods to screen for periodontal health in kindergarten “Toothy Tigers.”

Students serving as screeners, role models, and “educators” is a very cost-effective method for empowering youth to take responsibility for their own health.
